2011 Changes to CONGU Handicapping System
As County Handicap adviser, I am here to try and help you with any problems you may have with the application of the CONGU handicapping system.
Queries should first be addressed to Club Handicap secretaries who will almost certainly have the correct answer! If they are uncertain, they should first check with the CONGU handicap book - every Club should have at least 2 copies - and if that does not help, they should contact me. If there are any questions which I cannot answer satisfactorily I shall pass them upwards to EWGA.
If I find that the same questions are being asked I will try to put some notes on this webpage.
Some notes about the Annual Review process can be found here
Do remember to carry out your Annual Review prior to the season commencing.
On feedback from Clubs the number of Qualifying scores required to retain an active handicap will remain at 3 for 2011.
Please note any changes take place from 1st January 2011.
As you will all be aware, Golf Clubs (both men and ladies) are now Registering and Uploading to the Central Database of Handicaps (CDH). To date over 1500 Clubs have registered and 700 have uploaded their data to the database.
Information on the CDH has been sent to the Golf Club by the English Golf Union during 2009 and on 29th January 2011 additional correspondence was sent by the English Womens Golf Association. Both bodies are extremely keen to ensure as many Clubs as possible have uploaded their data prior to the start of the playing season.
EWGA and EGU have produced Help Sheets to make the process as painless as possible (!)
The help sheets guide Golf Clubs, using Club Systems, Handicapmaster and MH Systems (systems used by the majority of Golf Clubs) through the Registration and Upload process.
This procedure is exactly the same for both the mens and ladies sections of the Club.
The Upload process takes approx 5-10 mins and requires the computer holding the handicapping software to have an iinternet connection.
Some notes about the Central Database of Handicaps can be found here and a copy of the EGU presentation about how the system will operate is here.
Please email me with any questions you may have and enjoy your new golfing year.
